At a time when the field is facing a shortage of adequately prepared leaders, the SAMHSA CSAT’s Partners for Recovery (PFR) and the Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network have developed the Leadership Institute, designed to facilitate the development of future leaders in the substance use disorder profession. The 2008 Mid-America ATTC Leadership Institute will be offered to 20 candidates in the region —Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma. Approximately 4 candidates will be chosen from each state.
The Leadership Institute is a six-nine month leadership development program which provides a combination of in-depth assessment, traditional training seminars, distance education, and field experience in conjunction with the guidance of a specially selected mentor. The intensity of the Institute requires strong commitment from both the Leadership Institute candidate and the candidate’s agency. The primary goal of the Institute is to cultivate leaders within the addiction field by developing leadership competencies, and self-confidence through application of skills in a real-world setting.
